Questions about the pentair intellibrite 5g color light

Hi,

does anyone here have any reviews on the pentair intellibrite 5g underwater changing color light? We have a a new build, inground, roughly 15k gallon pool 25 x 16 with a dark blue/navy liner. We are in the process of changing a defective color light we received. The PB keeps insisting that we will be unhappy with the color changing light as it is not as bright as the pentair intellibrite white led light 500w. Does anyone have any reviews on this light? The kids really want a color changing fun light but we are afraid that it won’t make a big difference in terms of actual lighting in the pool at night.

The Intellibrite 5G does not get good reviews. I bought one anyway. And it did poop out straight away. Turns out it was the older version, which had a bad part and a weak heat sink. Pentair knows about the problem, but didn't bother to recall any. I've read one anecdotal account that the new version also poops out. So far, mine is fine. Neither of mine has gone more than a year yet.

They do not throw a lot of light, which will be exacerbated by a dark finish. I have a 12K pool, and it is fine for me. I don't want a bright light. I generally use the darker colors to decrease the light. But your PB is right, it won't blast your pool.

As far as fun goes? That is Pentair marketing at its best. You get a handful of solid colors and a handful of "dazzling light shows" that consist of the LED switching colors from one to the next rather unceremoniously, every few seconds. I forget the exact timing, but it is nothing like a dance party light show if that's what your kids are excited about. I went through them all at first, yawned, and haven't used them since. The romance one works OK, it just changes between subtle blues and green.

If you're expecting to generate any kind of excitement with the 5G, you'll be disappointed.

I do like to change colors sometimes. It does have a white, that illuminates well. In terms of seeing the bottom and steps, etc. The red is very dark in my Tahoe Blue pool, which I like, but it just barely lights up the steps.

If it lasts five years, I'll buy one again. If if poops out again in a year or less, I won't.
