I was adding liquid chlorine to my pool over a return line, and my pump went into priming speed. It was running at 2000 rpm...no noise from pump. It just went to 2500 rpm for about 15 seconds, then back to 2000 rpm. What could have caused this?

Is it possible to lose prime completely and damage the pump? Or will the pump shut off by itself?

thanks for any information.

The pump never shut off. It just started going faster for a few seconds.

So, if we are on vacation, the pump will shut down on its own instead of burning itself out. Good to know.

We have been looking for three years and can't find a suction side leak.

thanks.
