Can’t thank everyone enough for always being so willing to help !

We have had brand new plaster and water for 11 days. I’ve been getting more comfortable testing the water myself and adding the chemicals! Until around day 15, I have to run the pump 24/7.

Trying to get set up for when I can switch the pump to not have to run 24/7 and was looking for some help. I read the thread about pump run time but can’t seem to find it on the pump itself (Hayward 1.85 THP VS Pump) or the HydraPure UV and Ozone System.

If anyone can help or point in the the right direction for my specific pump and UV/OZ system it would be greatly appreciated!

TIA

Mikey, The pump is for circulation and getting water to run thru the filter. The filter will remove debris and if you start with say, 6-8 hours a day and like how your water looks- bingo! If your water looks a tad "dull" yet you know your sanitation is fine, add another hour to your pump. See if that works. With a VS pump you ought to be able to run it at minimal speed for longer at a fraction of the energy my single speed pump costs. Most VS pumps seem to be set at 24 hours a day since they're so quiet and cheap to run. You'll need to tweak your speed now and then to meet needs of mixing chemicals or for other reasons like the spa. Your UV/Oz system *may* require higher speeds on the pump- read the manuals.

UV/Oz systems really have nothing to do with sanitizing the entire pool water. Your Liquid Chlorine will be your workhorse sanitizer.

Do you have your test kit yet? Either the TF-100 or PRO www.tftestkits.net or the K-2006C from Amazon.

I run mine on the longer side - 8am - 10pm - this is what works best for my water quality given I live in a hot area (it'll be 107 this weekend), my pool has some degree of Oak cover, and the pool water gets pretty warm mid day.

That CYA looks weird. It should be in increments of 10. You can't read between the lines as it's a Log scale. It should be either 20 or 30

100% for the 14 hours ?

Since you are using liquid chlorine and close to the same size as my pool. About how much liquid chlorine are you going through ?

So the cya isn’t showing up on my Taylor test yet. The black dot starts to get blurry right around the top of the test tube … 30ppms. So I bring it to the pool company to test and that’s the number they gave me. All the other numbers are from my Taylor test kit.

If your using the tabs, it probably contains CYA. You might check the label and see. If it does, your CYA level will gradually build. Not sure how fast it will build until you have enough to do any good. If your FC is consistantly low when you check it then you may want to bring the CYA up to appropriate levels for your pool faster. When your CYA levels reach optimum, you will want to switch to the liquid chlorine. Otherwise, your CYA levels will continue to build and become a problem that is only solved by water replacement.

Good luck with your new pool and glad you found TFP to get started on the right foot.

Also , since you have the about the same amount of gallons I do… about how much liquid chlorine are you using ? And what do you keep your FC level at ? I’m going to switch to Liquid Chlorine soon.

my pump lets me set a specific RPM, so I'm running it ~ 2800 rpm for those 14 hours.

For my CYA level - 6ppm is the ideal per TFP. I lose somewhere between 1 - 2.5 ppm per day. On a heavier loss day, I'm adding ~ 39 oz of 10% liquid chlorine. I go through a 128 oz bottle every 3 - 5 days. I haven't had any trouble getting them in my area (walmart) and they cost about $4.50 per bottle.

I can't say enough good things about liquid chlorine. Its easier to manage, my pool is clean, no odors, no algae and I control my CyA level instead of a tablet.

What are you keeping your CYA at ?
