Woke up this am to a slightly noisy whine in my single speed pump motor (see pic for lable). This is a new pool to me and .... I am a new to pools newb on top of that. As the day progressed the pump is worsened to where you can hear the whining across my cul-de-sac. I assume it's a bearing? Previous owner left a box with some bearings and parts so I guess I am going to deenergize the motor and pull it and see if the bearing is something i can fix. I assume it is.

Regardless. My waterfall pump motor also went out (yea...I am special lucky). All of this has me wondering g if I should just bite the bullet and upgrade to VSPs?

If I should....what are the brands/equipment that can get this done without breaking the bank? Local builder told me to expect 2K to 4K and said I would have to replace pumps, controllers, etc. That's not in my budget...hopefully he was overblowing the cost.

Details.

ok.....ended up biting the bullet and found a great price match deal through Leslies for a Pentair VSF 3.0 HP pump. Basically 2x the HP I need, but I suppose I will just run it at a "Max" power of 50% for 8 hours/day and idle it for the remaining.
