I want to clean my pool deck with my power washer using the soap that came with it. Most of the water will end up on my automatic pool cover but will also go into the pool. How much do you think this will affect the chemical balance in the pool? I plan on opening the pool after I have cleaned the deck.

should be no problem, soap will not "hurt" the pool and I do not think much will get into the pool anyway.. I pour a cup or 2 of dawn in my pool every year to kill of the water boatman :)

In my opinion, soap is really not necessary for power washing.

Using soap, bleach or other chemicals just creates a mess and does not really make much difference.

The chemical does not have enough time to do anything.

If you want to use a chemical, put the chemical on first at a very dilute concentration to allow it time to work and then power wash it off.

I think that you will find that using just the pressure will do the same exact job as using a chemical additive.

Get a power wash disk. Something like this:

I also bought a longer wand for when I use the disk.

It does a great job lifting the dirt, but not washing it away. You follow up with the regular nozzles to wash away the dirt.

If you have water boatman, you have algae. It's what they eat. http://www.bugfacts.net/water-boatman.php

LOL, I have had algae 2 times in 8 years and both times my SLAM was less than 48 hours, most people would not even call it an outbreak... I have never had a green pool and unless something goes horribly wrong I never will... Now they may be in my pool for a short time but they are starving running around trying to find food then I nuke them :)

We have tons of ponds near us so every year I get some... I did not know they are attracted to light and fly at night, makes sense, I have LED lights above my pool.. (y)

I had those bastages for years, before TFP. I'd scoop them out and stomp them! Made me feel better. I have not seen one since I went TFP.
