Hello All, I need some help with a recent pool issue.
1. Purchased my home recently outfitted with a gunite pool.
2. Not knowing the maintenance and service history, decided to upgrade and perform maintenance on the pump/filtration system.
3. I changed out wth identical parts the existing Hayward VariFlo Xl Multiport valve. This included the Multiport valve seal that is sealed by the filter body clamp.
4. I removed and replaced all glue-in valves with union couple valves for future servicing.
5. I spliced in 2 union valves so that the heat exchanger could be isolated for winterization.
6. Changed the sand in my Hayward 300lb. sand filter. Inspected lateral.
7. I purchased and replaced with 300 lbs. of #20 silica sand
7. Rebuilt pump and replaced seals and strainer basket gasket.
8. Have verified no suction leaks on pump side or Multiport connections.
9. Boiled out chlorinator to make certain water flow not restricted.
THE ISSUE:
1. The pressure on FILTER is now 18-22 psi, it was 12-14 psi before the sand change and the flow at the eyeballs decreases at the 18-22 psi level, it's like the water is not flowing through the sand properly. The lower pressure was noted before the sand change due to the fact that the original gauge was broken and I just replaced it prior to the sand change.
2. On recirculate the pressure is about 12-14 psi which is OK according to Hayward customer support.
QUESTION:
COULD the sand be too fine or the lateral be defective?
