Going into the first winter with my pool that was just closed by the pool company who installed the pool this year for me.

Last year as the shell of the gunite sat over winter, they came by and put Gizmo’s in the skimmer boxes.

At the end of October, the safety cover finally came in and they closed the pool for me. They lowered the water level in the pool, blew out the lines, plugged the lines, and put a pump on the first step to prevent the water level rising to the tiles. They left me a tool to remove the safety cover if I have to and left it in my deck box.

Yesterday I was putting some items in the deck box and realized there were two Gizmos in the deck box as well. So, I was curious and went over to the skimmer boxes and realized the skimmer boxes had water in them. One skimmer box has one - one gallon container in it with no gizmo. The other skimmer box has two smaller containers in it with no gizmo. I also realized the water level in the pool is sitting right at or below the tile level. I put my phone into the skimmer box and took a picture of inside the pool and under the cover.

Side note - There are two holes at the bottom of each of my skimmers. One goes to the filter which is plugged when they closed the pool and the other is not plugged but is a dead end and does not go to the main drain. I was just going to shop vac all the water out of the skimmer boxes and screw the gizmo into the other hole that’s a dead end… but as I was shop vacuuming the skimmers , water kept filling up the skimmers from the pool. I’m under the impression that water should not be touching the tiles so when it freezes it doesn’t pop off the tiles. Does this include the inlet right outside the skimmer door that is lined with tile ?

I called the company to ask for some clarification before it gets too cold and starts freezing.

In the meantime if anyone here can offer me some guidance it would be truly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

The gizmo goes in the open line not the dead end line. If water is in that line then it wasn’t winterized or got water in it through the skimmer opening after it was winterized.
