Hi! I survived Hurricane Milton! I've received some great info from you guys on picking a setup to replace my current pool equipment. It's all old stuff, single speed pump, liquid chlorine, etc. I have researched some options. I am not going full automation. I want to save money. I came across CaliMar, and people seem happy with this brand from what I understand.

What do you think about my possible picks for the pump and SWG? I assume the SWG I post here is the full SWG and not just the replacement piece?

3HP pump:

SWG:

Filter:
I have a cartridge filter and think I'll stick with that style but haven't picked my new on yet! Suggestions?

Finally, I read a lot about backwashing, but I do not currently have that option I'm pretty sure. Is this something I should have setup to greatly improve cleaning and such?
Thanks!

Pump choice is a good one on a budget.
There is only one install of this calimar unit I know of on TFP...https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/generic-systems.249668/
Get the largest cartridge filter you can afford. The Pentair Clean & Clear Plus are nice filters.
You only backwash a sand filter, and in some cases DE filters. Cartridge filters are not backwashed...they are removed and cleaned.

Consider the Circupool RJ+ SWG. For a little bump they let you upgrade to the RJ60+ from the RJ45+ on Discountsaltpool.com. Remember that you want to size the SWG to be twice the capacity of your pool so you can run the SWG at 50% or less to help it last longer. I agree that the largest cartridge filter you can afford is best. 4 cartridges in the filter will work well. Don't skimp on that.

My PB installed a 3 way valve between my pump and cartridge filter for draining and vac to waste when I had no clue about any of it.

When it came in handy it was so valuable IMO that it was a non negotiable addition to the 2nd pool build after moving.

It turned out i was getting one either way. Its now code here because the Karens complained their neighbors with pools were flooding their yards so all new pools must have a dry well for draining. I can easily still flood the yard(s) with a submersible pump and a hose, but i had to pay good money for a drywell.

My pool is about 15K gallons so 40K SWG should be good right? Noted on the filter!

+1. Especially in FL. Your pool seasons are 2+ of my seasons long. Whether you're adding chlorine by liquid or by SWG you will be doing it for months longer than most.

You'll use proportionatly more cell hours or jugs per session. Go big or go home.

Thank you for the clarity on backwashing. I'm looking at the Clear & Clear Plus filter and see it has 4 cartridges! Does that mean that filter cleaning will now involve 4 filters to clean at a time? We currently just have one cartridge filter, and I can already hear my husband now if he has to go from 1 to 4 filters to clean every week. lol!

Yes, but the benefit of going big is that with your pool, you can likely go 6-8, maybe 10 months before you have to clean them.

You might also consider using hairnets in your skimmers. This will also extend the time between cleanings.

Put the hairnet in the skimmer, elastic around the outside, put a rock in the bottom that is bigger than the skimmer line (so it can't fall in and get lodged).
