I have a standalone, in-ground spa with all separate equipment from the pool. I get perpetually high calcium hardnessin this due to very high values from our local water. The local water comes to us with a hardness of nearly 400ppm. We have a water softener for our home, but not for the hoses or the irrigation.

The spa was filled (and refilled) with the hose and result is that the values get very high and scaling/deposits come in. For example, early this year (around march or april) I drained half the water and refilled using an attachment and hose from a bathroom nearby. This got the CH down to 325ppm. When I tested again recently the value was 800ppm. It just gets so much evaporation and splashout that it builds up quickly.

The process of running the hose from the house for every refill is onerous (refitting faucet, dragging hose, etc) and so I'm wondering if there is a beter solution. Perhaps a portable softener that can be connected and disconnected from the hose? Or a free standing unit that can be run on the pool water?

I followed this helpful thread (Course of action for hard water? Reverse osmosis? Water Softener? Both?) but trying to figure out what will work best in this situation.

Any help would be appreciated!

An RV water softener or have a spigot plumbed from your house softener to the backyard.

Does the RV water softener only stand connected to the hose for filling new water?

Or is there a way to run a pump such that water from the pool is pumped into a softener and then put back in? Just wondering if there is a way to avoid the big dump of Water already in.

Thanks!
