Opening my Pool for the first time....

Quick question regarding opening my pool. Upon removing my pool cover, I couldn't believe how clear the water was. THANKS to everyone here who made it a simple and successful process. Well, that was until I spilled a bunch of the dirty water and leaves from the pool cover into the water.

Do I need to remove all the dirt and debris before SLAMMING (I should know the answer to this already)? I'm guessing YES, as I know that dirt and debris will eat up your chlorine levels. However, I have a cartridge filter, is it bad to run non chlorinated water through the filter? I'm not sure how to vacuum without using the filter first.

I'm probably overthinking this. I'd appreciate any help.

Vacuum up the silt then clean the filter. Then SLAM. If you got all the stuff out the same day, your SLAM may only last a day until you pass all three tests. You didn't give algae much of a chance to get started.
