I hope I'm in the right location.
New pool owner and we have several days of freezing weather coming. Last year we were without power for 4 days and I didn't have the pool then. I've since setup my home to have my new generator to power my electric panels and have my inground propane tank to fuel my generator. So I should be able to keep the pool running. This leads me to a few questions though.
Do I have to run the booster pump as well?
I have a stone wall with 2 stone scuppers each with their own line from the equipment. The main pool pump provides water to them. The valves for the scuppers are at the equipment. Can I shut this valves off while I keep everything else running so the scuppers aren't running? Or do I want to keep the scuppers going?

But if things go south and I can't keep the pool going, are there additional things I need to do besides what I've listed?
-drain pump
-open the pressure valve on the pool filter to let air in and get some of the water out of the filter

Thanks for the help.

You don't have to run the booster if you don't want to. The main pump will push water through it. But you'll want to ensure there are no leaks at the connections and just monitor periodically to ensure continuous water flow to keep everything from freezing. You might consider placing a cover/tarp and light in in that area of the pad as well for additional warmth if possible. I would leave the scuppers off at the valve as long as you can be sure the valves do indeed close-off water (no small leaks).

Thank you Texas Splash.
On the scuppers, I have 2x 3way valves for the 2x scuppers at the equipment pad. So I will be ok shutting those valves off for the scuppers? The water in those line won't freeze at the equipment site?

Opening the relief valve at the pool filter will be sufficient correct?

Yes, open the air relief and remove or open the drain plug at the bottom of the filter. As for the scuppers, I would close the valves. If you have any way to perhaps try and pull some water out (i.e. ShopVac) you can try. That would give any remaining water room to expend If not, you could add some RV antifreeze into the outlet as insurance.

So I turned off the valves to my scuppers. Freeze protection has been going. No issues and we haven't lost power. Hopefully this holds true tomorrow.

Hopefully, we are out of the woods. All of my trees have tons of ice on them, with several branches touching the ground from the weight. Luckily the wind has died down so I'm hoping that will lessen the chance of trees/branches falling on power lines.

I was thinking the same thing last night. I definitely think the wind dying down helped. With this melt today, I suspect there will be some black ice on the lesser traveled roads.
