I have a 1 HP Challenger PAC-FAB motor. It came with the house; so it likely at least ten years old. There is a timer for the unit, but it didn't have any of the pegs to set for on and off; so I have always run it constantly during the swim season (we've been here for about eight years). I just noticed yesterday that it sounded much louder than usual. I read that this could be the capacitor gone bad, but are there other things I should look at first?
In looking at the instruction booklet that came with my pump, it seems to be made by Purex Triton. I can't tell whether it is a "High Head" or a "High Flow" model. the instruction/installation booklet seems to be for both and I don't see any distinguishing markings on the pump itself.
Hello,
You can pick up the timer pegs for a few buck online. You just need the model of the timer.
The pump motor can be replaced for less than a new pump. You might want to look at a 2-speed replacement motor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-Yz9k6bmLk
