Hello TFP friends!

A little background...pool completed in August 2016. Switched from Trichlor to Liquid Chlorine in November. Been happy every since. BUT, being sent to Boston for a three week school June 2nd and having to leave the pool in the hands of my wife who doesn't participate in the upkeep...one of the big reasons we finally got one...garantee she wouldn't have to mess with it...

My CYA is at 30 now after using liquid chlorine all winter. I don't think she is going to be willing to do daily testing and adding required to continue with the liquid. If I used pucks for three weeks, any idea how must it will increase my cya? 16,500 pool full sun...any idea how many pucks I would go through?

thanks for any insight!

I'd just have her add "a little more" liquid bleach each day than you normally might. Raise it to shock level before you leave. Pucks in a floater won't kill you for 3 weeks either with CYa of 30 in Houston.

Woody,

DFW Metro not that it is much different...gonna be a hot summer maybe just not as humid as Houston...

Thanks for the info. I didn't mention and should have that I'll also be leaving behind 3 triplet 11 year olds who will be in the pool most daily for two of the three weeks. Does that alter any of your advice?

Thank you sir!

In my 16000 gallon pool, 5 pucks crammed in the floater will last about two weeks. They get pretty thin at the end there, but I've never been gone three weeks at a stretch, so I don't know how low FC went.

That being said... I can't see more than ten pucks dissolving in that time. Whether it's enough to maintain FC or not, I can't say. But your wife would probably consent to shoving another puck in the floater every couple days as they melt away and there's room for another. The alternative is a green pond with mosquito larvae in it. She might even agree to drop the hose in if the water level gets too low, if you beg and grovel enough.

Five pounds (10 pucks) will add 20 CYA to your pool. Just about perfect. You might want to raise TA some before you go, as the pucks are real acidic. Target 100-120.

Thank you Richard! Enjoy the weekend!
