Hey TFP, been reading here for a few months thanks to a Reddit recommendation in anticipation of my pool. We settled on an 18' round above-ground pool for various reasons; nevertheless, the pool is filled up and ready to rock. I bought a TFP Pro test kit and took my first measurements today and plan to use Pool Math to get a grip on this thing.

My question is, the 'lazy man' package they sold me (may have been a waste of cash, I do not know) comes with an Aqua Smarte Plus system that claims to reduce the amount of FC needed to maintain a clean pool due to the Mineral Activator component involved in the system. In the instructions of this system, it details a FC measurement of .5-1 PPM. This goes against what I have read on this site and against Pool Math recommended guidelines.

Has anyone used this system and can give any guidance as to if that information is accurate or if I should follow TFP guidelines for easy pool care?

The system has cartridges which you change after X amount of time that help reduce chlorine use. My neighbor has this system and loves it and says maintenance on his pool is very minimal.

Hey CG and Welcome !!!

Does it deploy a tent over the pool to shield it from the sun ? If not, your pool gets the same UV loss as everyone else's near you. It's likely 3 to 4 ppm per day near you in the peak season. How you gonna go run a 0.5 to 1?

Not well. That's how. :)

Without algae, your daily battle is with the sun and the device does nothing to help.
