Mustard Algae question

I've read the article re mustard algae and I'm not sure if I have it. I am in the middle of a slam, my water is clear with the exception of some brown patches approximately in the middle of the pool. There is none on the walls or in the shady end. I am brushing at least twice a day. I should mention that I have Oklahoma slate as coping. I am wondering if that could be causing the sediment or if it is actually mustard algae. I am going to try OCLT tonight. If I pass, I will do mustard algae slam tomorrow. In any case, I have to be gone for a week beginning Sunday and a neighbor has already committed to dumping a gallon of 10% chlorine each evening.

Any advice or comments will be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello Charlie! I honestly can't say if the stone has much bearing on your issue, but I think you're going about it the right way. Validate the water's status with an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test and do the MA SLAM for 24 hrs. Hopefully that and the scrubbing will take care of the issue. If not, let us know when you get back.

is testing the FC level every 3 hours ok, or should I be more frequent?
By now you may already be in a pattern of seeing how quickly FC will fall. At MA levels it will fall quicker than regular SLAM levels, but you'll see the pattern. Good luck!

you were correct, I finished my MA slam at about 6 this morning and the FC fell much more rapidly than in a regular SLAM....I ended up taking 7 readings and everything still looks the same. I added about a gallon of 10% chlorine tonight and will take another reading in the morning before I leave. My neighbor has committed to a gallon of 10% chlorine per day beginning tomorrow evening. When I get back, I'll report a full set of numbers and what the pool looks like.
As an aside, I finally repaired a wheel on my Polaris, only to find that the booster pump comes on sporadically and shuts off after about 10 seconds....another project, from what I read, it may be a capacitor, the booster pump was replaced 2 years ago. It's a PB 4-60.
Comments are welcome.
Thanks
