Newly filled 8 weeks ago. I've attached the testing over the past week and I reckon adding ounces of bleach isn't telling how much it is in the water (5.25% est. in 515 gallons) but target lately is 5-6 ppm CHt. Five if we already were in or don't plan to be, 6 if we are still going to use it.

You can see I've finally figured out where ALK wanted to be and PH has been well behaved, but CC hovers around .5 or at least until a week ago it did. Now it's kicked up a couple times and I first dumped MSP, then bleach, then even more MSP to try and rectify. Water is clear, (minor) foaming stopped since adding some Calcium, and we are hoping to not dump it until it's hit the 3 month mark just so we get to feel like we can handle things. When I added CH and MSP I dissolve it in a bucket.

I test after removing cover, adding, and running Main pump for 2-3 minutes, waterfall and Aux pump for 30-60 seconds, hoping it's mixed by then. Samples always just skimming the surface.

What's got me puzzled is how FC rose hours after the CHL dose, and how MSP registered in FC when I thought it only registers in CC(?).

It still has not been purged, but with some advice during intros and all my reading through the threads (30 pages out of 150 and counting) I've got Ahh!-Some on hand. Filter was soaked in non-phosphate dishwasher powder and rinsed 8 minutes with "Neoterics Blaster 1000 Automatic Pool and Spa Cartridge Filter Cleaner". We ain't doin our part wiping down the shell but it seems OK.

I've got some MPS neutralizer reagent on order but it got back ordered, and am mostly using the MPS because I already bought it before learning that I probably could have done without it. Too bad I bought 6#.

Any ideas why the readings were not what I expected? Bonus question :) , any idea what byproducts get left behind once MSP has done it's thing and how they effect "normal" water chemistry?

TIA
Methuselah

(edit: yup, it's MPS)

Hey Methuselah 👋👋
The mps definitely confuses things.
I have a bunch too - it was included in my pool purchase but I have never used it.
Most who manually dose find it easier to raise fc to near slam level for their cya FC/CYA Levels after their soak (leave the cover off for 30min or so) - this allows for a few things, eliminating cc’s, it’s enough fc to consume bather waste, & still generally having enough residual fc to make it until & possibly through the next soak to repeat the process again.
I see u are keeping good records- the PoolMath app is amazing for that.
I was old school pen & soggy paper for a long time but upgrading was sooo worth the $8/yr once I realized how effortless it made things.

Now DPD FAS test indicates 10 FC, < .5 CC

Since I added 5 ppm last night I reckon the rest is MPS, so I'm guessing the CC is correct enough and will presume I'm left with 2.5-3 of CHL. Oh well, hopefully the MPS will dissipate - it does appear to have done its duty.

Does anyone using the MPS neutralizing reagent know how long past expiration it still works? I'm considering letting the company I ordered from just send me what they got, expired or not.
