What do I do? The instructions said it was not meant to drain. We installed per instructions but now there’s a LOT of water on top. It’s pool water mixed with precipitation. I’m skimming leaves out but no way I’ll be able to pump the water off. It will just drain the pool water. Do I just get as much leaves and debris off it and let the top water fall in when I remove it? I know I’ll have to work a bit harder to get it clear. I don’t know what we did wrong…

A photo would help. How much water do you have in the pool? I’m trying to understand if you mean that the water is collecting on top while the water inside the pool is drained a little (basically like how a solid cover works. Mesh covers require more draining since rainwater obviously goes through them and accumulates inside the pool), OR do you mean that the mesh cover literally lying on top of the pool water with leaves and debris and is having a “tea bag” effect (sorry, I don’t know how else to word it lol) ??? A picture would help tremendously. I’ve used both a mesh and solid covers before, so I may or may not be of help lol.

Edit: I am the worse at explaining stuff lol let me find some photos real quick so I can better explain what I’m talking about lol. But if you post pics, I will know right away which one you’re referring to lol

Scoop everything you can get and then see if you can lift it and have it drain like a strainer. If so, 'strain it'. If not, a submersible pump will drain it faster than it permeates the cover and you can at least get most of the water off before dumping the rest in the pool. You'll have to make a judgemental call on the fly as to when you are pumping more pool water and less top water. If the cover is staying relatively as high as it is without sinking, you're still pumping top water.

No matter what any manufacturer says, you get XX inches of rain and need to pump XX inches of rain out or off. With a solid cover, it's off. With a mesh cover its out.

As per @Newdude but I'll add. Pump with a large enough pump to be faster then what comes through the tarp and here's what I'll add. When the water gets to be lower start to raise/roll the tarp so it can't take up anymore water thus pushing the water to one side and eventually into a small corner. This may need 2 people.
