Maintain SLAM for a week?

I'm in the middle of a SLAM now. The pool school SLAM topic implies that you should maintain SLAM level of chlorine until the water is clear (there are 2 other criteria also). It could take a week or more for the filter to clear up the water. Is this really necessary? Or can we just go with the overnight test and combined chlorine? Thanks

There are 3 criteria for a reason; although often the water clarity is the one that seems to take the longest to clear up due to filter deficiencies. If you are passing the OCLT and have low CC, then most likely there are no longer organics in the water you are fighting and are just in a waiting game for the filter to clear up the pool. The higher FC levels can also help to break down the "stuff" that is still in the water and clouding thing up.

Folks who rush a SLAM are folks who tend to be repeating the process not long after. Don't stop until all three criteria are passed:

1- perfectly clear water
2- CCs of 0.5 or less
3- lastly, an OCLT with less than or not greater than 1ppm FC loss
