Low salt but no code

I just completed a SLAM a couple of weeks ago and am working on getting the water chemistry dialed in. I've been testing the salt with the strips from tftestkits and have constantly gotten a reading around 1700ppm. My Intex SWG says target level is 3000ppm and from what I can find it should throw a low salt code around 2500ppm? So are the strips inaccurate or is the SWG not too precise. In any case I'm thinking I should add salt? At 1700 to get to 3000 I should add 4-40lb bags, I'm thinking I'll start with 2 and retest?

Welcome to TFP!

Don't add more salt yet since the SWG is happy.

Make sure you are using the test strips correctly. Make sure you only submerge them in the water to the proper depth and for the right amount of time. Many people miss the depth.

If you are still unsure of the salinity, you can have a pool store check only the salinity.

I just retested making sure it was an inch of water for 3-12 minutes. I checked at 5 minutes and the peak was at 4.8 and rechecked at 12 minutes still at 4.8. The salt level for 4.8 is 1620 ppm on the label.
As you said the SWG is happy, that's why I was reluctant about adding more; I'd hate to get a high salt code. It seems to be maintaining proper FC levels well, I even turned it down from the Intex recommended run time. I may just leave it as is until something comes up, either a low salt code or lowering FC levels.

If you're interested, you could also get a Taylor K-1766 (link in my signature) to get an accurate read within 200 ppm. My display is always way off, as were the strips I was using... as ping noted, what matters is that your SWCG is happy. It will generally let you know when it's not.
