Looking for help with SR Smith PT 6002 and Mod Lights

Firstly, thanks for clicking on my post.
I am hoping some forum members could help me out as SR Smith has been zero help and they don’t have any warranty support near my zip code.

I have a PT 6002 and 4 Mod lights which worked fine until this season.
This season the remote no longer works for the PT (inductor light on remote lights up and battery has been replaced) but the PT doesn’t responded.
Secondly my lights won’t sync up to the same color and one light sort of flickers when changing.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what I can look into to fix this. Thank you!

I have the same issue so im hoping someone with experience replies. I have 4 Mod lights with the PoolLux Plus transformer. Lights wont synch to the same color. One light is mostly off but occasionally flickers. Another light flickers nonstop. Pool is less than 1 year old.

Did you find anything about your issues? I haven’t been able to find any answer. I think the mod lights have also been discontinued otherwise I’d try and swap the one out. I’m not even sure which other lights would fit my niches because I think I tried the treo first and didn’t have the depth that’s why I went with mod lights.

Not sure how old your pool is but I was able to send in a warranty replacement request with SR Smith. They had me contact a local pool company for the actual submission and replacement. Since the Mod lights are discontinued, I asked them about replacing with Kelo lights, "The Kelo lights have been discontinued and are no longer available. The Treo lights may fit, they take the same diameter conduit, however, they require at least 3.5" before the conduit reduces, unlike the MOD which only needed about 0.5". ...we can ship a Treo instead of a Mod light if that is requested in the claim, and if it has not already shipped."

So, looks like I'll give the Treo lights a go and hopefully they fit. Not sure what plan B is if they don't fit.

Guys, I have the TREO lights (don’t know if the MOD lights have a different protocol but I don’t think so) but don’t have/use any of the available PoolLux transformer options. I use a simple 12vac transformer to drive my lights (I have a safety transformer to replace it with but have not yet done so). To “sync and change” the lights, I simply use the ON/OFF method which appropriately cycles power to the lights via automation.

My understanding is that the PoolLux transformers have this ability as well by turning off the “remote” switch at the box and going into a manual mode. I would suggest trying that because it seems to me that the issues you are seeing COULD have more to do with the transformer box, rather than the lights themselves.

I would disconnect all lights except one, measure the AC voltage at the light wires (should be 12 or 13vac when ON) and then toggle the manual switch to see if the light(s) work. Check one at a time before reconnecting. Resetting (or syncing) the lights is accomplished by 3 consecutive power cycles within a second or two. It would help to know if the problem is the lights or the transformer box.

Yes I have this exact transformer. Unfortunately ive never used a multimeter so im not sure how to check AC safely.

Flip the switch: on, off, on, off, on, off, on within about 1-2 seconds…this should be a reset operation.
Did the lights turn on, if so…are they all the same color? If not, there could be a problem with the voltage/connections/lights.

Ok so first ‘thank you’ for helping me! I just tried the manual on/off method and the colors changed, but the lights that are off are still off. I did the on/off really fast like the instructions.

Last night, i did unscrew the lamp module and pulled the power coupler out of the fitting with the orange suction tool that came with the lights. I tried to marry the power coupler and lamp module together while reinstalling. The light did not turn on even when i held the 2 components tight against eachother. For some reason i expected a magnetic bond between the two but there was nothing preventing them from breaking apart in the fitting. Still no light.

@m_cat12, unfortunately I don’t know anything about taking apart the lights, I never did that and mine are the Treos anyway so probably different. Are you sure you reassembled it correctly? I would try to connect all the lights to one set of terminals (they should be already??) inside your transformer to check if there is a bad side of the transformer and possibly the lights actually do work.

EDIT: After reading about your MOD lights, I don’t think this is the problem…see the next post.




If you want to try this, first unplug the transformer module. The connect all four of your lights to the terminals labelled 12V and L/V. Plug back in and use the manual on/off mode to test the lights again…same result as before or do all turn on OR stay off.

If all stayed off, then unplug again and switch all four lights to the terminals labelled L/V and 13V. Plug back in and test again. This should give you an indication if your two lights are really bad.

Finally the bad news, this on/off method of control only gives you 8 light options, the different hues and brightnesses can only be controlled with the remote and its corresponding circuitry. So if/once you get your lights working, try the remote method again to see if those options are now available.

@m_cat12 , I don’t think my above post will work after reading about your MOD lights. All four your lights should already be connected to one of those two sets of terminals, is that correct?

Also here is the manual for your MOD lights, I kinda see how they are put together now. I assume you are extracting the light and pulling the power coupler from its installed location…and the pool is full? I don’t know if you are really supposed to do that as water will flood and remain in the PVC piping in which the wires to the light (from the pad) are run. That wouldn’t necessarily be a problem except that it looks like the wire connection into to the power coupler is a simple compression fitting. If water gets in that, it could compromise the electrical connection to the power coupler. But what is done is done…

SR Smith probably discontinued these MOD lights because that connection (wire to power coupler) and/or the transmission of power from the “contactless” power coupler to the light (like a wireless phone charger) is easily compromised…and in your case is probably broken. You could check that by switching the locations of a non-working light with a working light. But that could possibly cause another of your “working lights” to be compromised with water in the PVC pipe.

Replacing your MOD lights with the TREO lights might be a challenge, because the TREOs are bigger, there will need to be room for them, and fitting one in doesn’t necessarily mean it will fit in all locations. If you want them to match you will probably have to replace all four. The TREOs will require a wire pull from the pool wall back to the pad (using the existing wire inside as the pulling mechanism. I recommend you drain your pool below the light sockets.

One last thing, the manual ON/OFF reset sequence I gave you in the previous post may work (and it does for my TREOs), but it is NOT the official method. Here is the correct one.
