I was back washing the filter today and noticed That there seemed to be water coming out of the pump somewhere. I think it was the pump anyway. Back recirculating and all seems fine.

i had lifted the hose of the Barracuda out of the pool but not either end so May have introduced a little air. Is that likely the cause?

combination of air and extra pressure needed to back wash?

What might be happening here?

Make sure. If it was a seal leaking pool water will flow along the shaft to the motor and it will then get into the motor bearing. This process doesn't usually take very long. This is the most common cause of motor failure in pool pumps. Seal replacement is easy and cheap. Motor replacement is more difficult and expensive.

I hope this helps.

That’s Chris. I’ll look for a how to change a pump seal.

I’ve had little leaks before sometimes - a tiny drip when turning off the pump or a splash when a bit of air gets in when I use the vacuum. This is by far the worst though. In normal operation I don’t see any leaks but guess might be dripping into the intervals. :(

If the leak is at the pump lid, it may not have enough lube on the O-ring. That can result in water squiring out and air getting in. So remove the clear lid and ensure the O-ring has a generous amount of pool silicone lube.
