I have a leaky filter plug . I have replaced my sand recently myself but I don't want to do it any time soon . I thought about using jb weld to attach a pipe ove the drain pipe that is there now since I can not get the drain plug to stop leaking . I thought about using a simple ball valve to do this . Has anyone attempted this to fix a leaking drain plug . Any suggestions would be appreciated . Retired auto mechanic George

To be clear for those who may want to make a recommendation, are you saying the leak is at the drain stem itself? Where it meets against the body of the filter perhaps? Not something as easy as the drain cap or gasket correct?

Or is it leaking from the drain cap/plug itself (pretty common when threads become damaged from over tightening). If this is the problem, one of these may work:
