We have an oil-fired pool heater, our Swedish friend Laars XL-3. I was reading over the winter about fireman's switches, and then I discovered that we already had one fitted to our pump timer, so I thought I could set Laars to always be "on", and he'd start when there was enough pressure and would turn off when the fireman's switch cut him off.
However, now that we've finally got the pool opened and cleaned, and we're trying to heat it for a party next weekend, I'm finding that the fireman's switch definitely turns the heater off 15 minutes before the pump goes off, but the heater doesn't fire up again the next morning when the pump starts up again. Not only does it not start up, but I have to switch off, take the cover off and press the reset button (and, this evening, bang persuasively on the side of the unit) before it'll fire up again.
Is there something else I need wired up (a reverse fireman's switch thing?) so that the heater will start automatically? Am I just going to have to start the pump at 6am so I can start the heater manually as I leave for work?
