Just opened pool...add CYA now or wait

Hello folks,

Just opened pool...usually it's fairly clear but opened late this year and there were a couple of 85 degree days in NY already...so pool is really green.

Fc = 37 (pool company opens pool but I do the rest...they added 5 gal chlorine)
Cc = 1
CYA = 25 at most
pH, etc: Not tested yet

I use liquid CYA (I know it's a splurge, but I prefer it)...should I add it TODAY so that the chlorine can work on the algae w/o being eaten up by sunlight quickly?

The only reason I would wait is the water level is very high until I vacuum to waste ... but I can't see to vacuum yet...and I'd prefer not to vacuum the CYA to waste...

My guess is you'll tell me to add the CYA today?

Edit: Hmmm, I'm not a new member but the post is listed as such, and w/o my signature.
So for the moment...18x33 ABG, DE filter, Hayward Matrix 1 hp pump, I use liquid chlorine. Thanks again....Jason
Edit: The signature noted is NOT mine.

Thanks very much,
Jason

One gallon of Liquid Stabilizer will raise your CYA by 18ppm.

How did you arrive at a CYA level of 25?? 25ppm translates to 30ppm CYA (its logarithmic not linear). 30 ppm is find for a SLAM process.

The more CYA you have in the water, the more FC it takes to clear the algae. Will that be a problem for you?

How are you testing your water? WHich kit??

Thanks Maddie.
I'm using the TF-100...so yes I should count my CYA as 30.
I have no problem keeping up the Fc level.
So yes I will add the liquid CYA today.
Thank you very much!
Jason
PS it seems I started a new sign-in in error. I found my old sign in and will post any new thread under that.
Thanks for this forum!!
