Jandy Stealth pump hums but doesn't provide suction

So the aftermath of Harvey for me is a semi-messed up roof and a messed up pool pump.

I went outside to try and fix it Monday but every time I kicked the pump on it immediately tripped a breaker. So I let it dry out more and tried it again yesterday, success it doesn't trip the breaker. BUT it doesn't suck water.

So I check the shaft, it spins freely.. If I spin the shaft while it's humming it appears I can kick start it.. it starts to run but it didn't seem like it was sucking still (the pump basket was half full) and the housing was getting really warm and smelling electrical-ish. I accidentally sprayed it with some hose water as I was removing the house from the basket to put the lid on and immediately tripped the breaker again.


So... I guess my question is: What's wrong? If I replace the start capacitor so it starts on it's own but the tiniest bit of water sets it off, is it done?

I'd guess that everything is waterlogged down there and it will take a while to dry out. Try aiming a fan at the pump and electrical and see if that helps dry things out.

Go ahead and replace the capacitor and if it is still having issues google a electric motor repair shop in your area. They should be able to rebuild it for around $100.

Remember to keep adding chlorine daily and use a brush to mix it in.

That's why I'm chomping at the bit on this.. I use a chlorine generator and don't stock/have chlorine on hand otherwise.

For the record I'm north of Austin so we just got rain and wind and luckily no standing water, so it's not like the pump got submerged.

Is walmart open? They normally stock 8.25% bleach. A bottle a day will keep the green swamp away!

Well I went home to try and dry the pump out and when I flick it on at the controller it doesn't even hum now.

I'll check it again after work in case it's just waterlogged in some area.. but I think it's dead.
