Issues with the Summer Waves water stopper.

We upgraded to a Summer Waves 16x42 elite pool this year. I already have a Intex Sand filter and want to go from the SFX Filter to the Sand filter. I have the adaptors and everything that is needed to convert. I have already filled the pool, because i figured it would take a lot longer to figure out how to convert.. The Summer Waves pool comes with a water stop that supposed to prevent the water from flowing into the skimmer while trouble shooting. For the life of me I can't get the water stopper to stay in place for more than 2 seconds. I'm trying to prevent a lose of water. Any suggestions on how to get the water stopper to work?

Buy an appropriately sized expandable rubber plug for the bottom of the skimmer. I'm not sure what water stopper you're talking about. You could post a link to the item online. What you want is something that looks like the picture below. Make sure it's sized to fit partially into the skimmer drain hole but not all the way in. Expand by twisting the wingnut to make a good seal.

Should be able to find many sizes at hardware stores.

My stop looked a lot like an upside down bowler hat when I had a similiar pool.

I think I once did something to lock the weir (skimmer door) to stop most water, but a rubber plug like shown above can be used in winterizing a pool.
