Hello, your expert advice is appreciated.
Background: in the last couple of months we noticed paving area behind the return pipe got wet more and more. Got a few quotes for leak detector and repair for around $6-7k.
We called a leak detector who told us last month that that the return pipe leaked and the location of the leak is inside the concrete wall.
However the next day we had to go interstate so there's no time to organise a repair beforehand.
The test result using Taylor kit before we left one month ago: FC 4; CC 0.2; PH 7.8; TA 60; CH 230; CYA 30; Salinity 3200: Temp 18.7degrees C; CSI -0.36.
Whilst we're away we had a middle aged carer who would come to the property to turn on the pump every other day and remove the leaves from the pool.
However she stoped doing that reasoning the leak has gotten worse (the pavings were so wet more when the pump was turned on), she reported the bottom of the pool was dirty from dirt.
When I saw the photo she sent today, I realized it was actualy algae growth and the water started to become green (attached).
The paper test result she sent today: FC 0.2; Total Chlorine 0.5; PH 7; TA 40; CH 300; CYA 30. I know this test is not accurate but at least it confirmed that Free Chlorine is zer0

We had a dozen bottle of liquid pool chlorine. Will it help to pour a few litre of chlorine each day without running the pump till we return in 2 weeks time? And if not, what is the best way to solve this problem whilst we're still away? Thanks again in advance.

You have algae, so ultimately you will want to perform the SLAM Process when you return home. Until then, adding one gallon of chlorine each day is good if the pool caregiver can at least brush the chlorine around the pool a bit. In other words, don't just dump it all in one spot and leave.

Thank you for the advise Pat. I'm feeling confident to do that. now Upon reading TFP SLAM Process, can you please clarify what do "3-4 times" and "2-3times" mean in below?
Do they mean "3-4 times" and "2-3times" the normal daily ppm level in our pool?

Test the FC level and add enough chlorine to bring FC up to SLAM level 3-4 times per day.
  • The more often you can test and add FC, the faster your SLAM will proceed. However, you should not test and add more often than every two hours.
  • At the beginning of your SLAM, the chlorine is used quickly to kill algae. As the algae is killed off, you can reduce your testing and chlorine additions to 2-3 times per day.

The theory is that when actually performing the SLAM Process, it's most efficient when a pool owner can "maintain" the required FC SLAM level. For example, if someone's CYA is 30, then their SLAM FC level would be 12 per the FC/CYA Levels. The more consistent someone is maintaining the FC of 12 the better the SLAM process will go. To maintain that FC of 12 requires testing the water a few times per day (at least 2-3 times), especially in the early part of the SLAM when algae is very active and aggressive. Once the water gets better, the chlorine will hold longer, hence testing can spread out a bit and be more consistent.

Make sense?
