A few weeks ago I added a bag of Diamond Crystal Solar Natural (blue bag from HD). I spread it across my deep end and ran all my pumps. This is what I’ve always done with no issues, but this time I noticed the next day there was a faint yellow/brown stain where the salt had been sitting at the bottom.

I did a test with a Vitamin C tablet and it instantly rubs off with the tablet so pretty sure it’s iron. Must have been a bad batch of this as I’ve never had an issue before, but lesson learned I will dissolve salt before adding in the future.

My question is what would be the best way to treat the remaining stain. It’s about a 6 foot by 1 foot stain. I feel like spot treating with Vitamin C tablets is the rig by approach vs doing the AA process on my whole pool, but I will probably go through 20-30 vitamin C tablets spot treating.

My specific questions are:
1. Do you think spot treating is the right approach vs AA-ing the whole pool?
2. Will 20-30 Vit C tablets materially impact FC that I need to plan for adding extra, or is it just noise? It’s a 20 kgal pool.
3. Any sense if this amount of iron will restrain without sequestration, or is it low enough that I won’t notice?

I don't think the amount of staining will be detrimental to your overall chemistry. Probably not worth an AA treatment at this point either. I would just stay patient and place a handful in a thin sock or nylon, crush them up a bit, and rub in the stained area. Hopefully the stain will lift as fast as it did for the tablet test.

That’s a good idea. Just didn’t think there was risk of solar naturals salt and staining before.
