Intex pump air valve

When I open the air purge valve on my pump, it seems to just let more air into the pipes that I can't get rid of. The only way to get it running is to open the lid, fill with water as a prime, close and start.
If there's ever a tiny bit of air left, I can't seem to purge it.
Could it be a height thing? The pump is almost at same level as pool.

If it's a sand pump just disregard lol. Otherwise I can also help. Definitely can't hav pump up at water line is said to put on ground but mine is on a plastic square milk crate that sits upside down on 12x12paver and does fine. Do u open up the suction line water flow first prior to opening the air valve? I have one and that was what was recommended to me and I do that then unscrew the air valve also first thing I do is I empty all filter water from sediment valve so mine is empty at first. I leave inlet side off and I don't even turn it on til I have water coming up thru the top of air valve then I close it. Next I Openwater supply to inlet and power up my pump.

IM Not piped tho I have the intex screw on hoses and the plunger valves attach to fittings and then hose screws on there and the pump of course.

What size and I model pump do you have? And how often are you cleaning filters? I had to figure it all out myself and modify my 12' diameter pool so I had better pump.

the suction must be lower than the inlet. But it isn't by much tho maybe 6" is why on the regulate cartridge pump without timer like 1000gph the openings on pump are also one low other high. U would b surprised a lot of people mix up the inlet with outlet. its easy cause u do think ok gravity so it comes out from the hole that's highest on the pool wall but no not at all.

So if u lower pump then make sure ur hooked up to inlet being higher line than suction (unless u hav skimmer then no brainer) and open that water supply coming from suction first wait few sec and then open air valve it should fill and then close and then open inlet water supply and turn pump on.

Also one other idea is b sure nothing isn't blocking or clogging suction side whether at pool wall or at pump. Again I don't know bout sand filters tho haven't gotten that far yet. So good luck and have good one :) heather
