iAqualink solar programming

Hi folks,

Can someone help me with programming my iAqualink with solar heating? I'd like it to be so that the the VSP runs at "filter speed" when solar is not engaged (pool at temp or weather is not warm enough to heat) and "solar speed" when solar is engaged. Right now, I have this programmed:

1. In "Devices," Pool Heat is enabled and Solar Heat is enabled.
2. Schedule is "Filter Pump" from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

I don't have a schedule for "Solar Heat." I don't understand the difference between a "Solar Heat" schedule and "Filter Pump" schedule with "Solar Heat" enabled in devices.

Thanks

You should schedule your "filter pump" from 6:00AM - 5:59AM. This makes the default speed your "pool" speed, which should be set for the lowest you ever want (Mine is set for 1000 but you could go lower if you wanted). When other devices turn on, they will spin up to their speed and when they are off, the speed returns to "pool". Make sure to set your heater temp to a higher speed. I have my heater go to 3000.

Let's say I follow your programming above, but instead have Solar set from 11 am to 6 pm. That means I have 7 hours of 3000 rpm regardless of whether the water is flowing through the solar? Or is there a way to program so that when it needs solar from 11 am to 6 pm, it spins up to 3000 and when it reaches set temp (or the weather is too cool), then it spins down to 1000?

You wouldn't schedule solar at all. It comes on when it needs to as long as it is activated based on the thermostat settings. The settings above ensure your pump goes back the the speed you want it at when those devices (heaters) turn off.

However - I think you can add it to the schedule and it should spin down as you want.

If the Solar is controlled by a JVA, then the speed change should be triggered when that JVA is triggered. I don't have Solar, so can't say for sure, but I would be looking at how to tie the Solar Speed setting to the Solar JVA. Maybe an Aux?

Added: Assume you've done the "Assign JVA" part.

Jandy supports Solar and I suspect this is all builtin somewhere. Obviously you would want solar to not run at night. I don't have solar so can only offer theoretical help. Really he needs to just call Jandy tech support they are very good!
