Up north it gets dry so we have a whole house humidifier (carrier bypass) tapped into hot water line, but it only runs when the furnace calls for heat. House is pretty tight so the house gets to temp quickly so the humidifier doesn't get much time so our humidity hovers around 30-32%. The wife and kids have allergies so dry is no good. Anyhow I would like to get it up to upper 30's for sure so I'm thinking of having it wired so if the sensor detects it say below 38% that the furnace blow will kick on and run even if heat is not called for. Anybody have that set up? Do you find your furnace blower running a lot more?

My system runs the humidifier when needed, regardless of furnace status. Like right now my system isn't calling for heat but the blower is running and humidifying.

I am not sure I would notice my system running a lot more because I have a variable speed system and I use the continuous fan setting on mine that runs the blower at 40% speed, 24/7. This provides a more even temperature throughout the home. The only time the fan turns off is if the humidity is above the cooling humidity setpoint, so it will prevent continuing to move humid air around the home and drive the humidity up. This is an issue for me in the spring time when we get rains and the temps start to come up, and the HVAC sits idle because the demand is not there for either heat or cooling.
