HTH Green to Blue how to add flocculent without a skimmer?

Hi, I'm new to this forum, but I've been reading articles here for several years. I have a problem I can't seem to find an answer to.

This year, we had to replace our vinyl Intex popup pool. The new pool has TWO intake ports coming off the pool to the pump, and they are smaller than the previous. I read up and see that this is due to new regulations, blah blah blah. The problem is, the new pool does not have a skimmer, and there's so many chemicals and treatments that have to be added through the skimmer -- I don't know what to do!

We had to treat with HTH Green to Blue a few weeks ago, and hubby rigged up something using our old skimmer and a really long vacuum hose. But it was a pain in the rear to rig up. I'm looking for a simpler solution or some way to add the flocculent without a skimmer.

I got on chat with HTH and they were no help. They only said they don't recommend it because my pump doesn't vacuum to waste. I tried to explain that we just disconnect the return hose from the pool, take out the cartridge, and get the same results, but they wouldn't even try to help me find a solution. I'm hoping someone here has some kind of nifty trick to get around the skimmer problem, as this is going to be an ongoing issue. With a pool this small (5500 gal), I get algae every time it rains. :/

Hello and welcome to the forum!

We never recommend adding anything into the skimmer, with the exception of DE for DE filters.

We focus on preventive measures that will rid you of the need for flocs, clarifiers, and other magic potions.

Why did you have to use the green to blue? And why would you add it to the skimmer?

Floc, when used properly, should never be added to a skimmer.

You do not need floc or clarifier or any of that other stuff. You need to brush and let your filter do its job.

You need to check your filter often and make sure you keep it clean so that it can do its job.

As for the rain and algae, that is simply not keeping your water balanced.

Here it comes,... please please invest in a test kit as recommended everywhere here.

Believe me when I tell you, happiness is knowing what is happening with your water.

You can do this but you need to arm yourself with the right tools.
