How hard is it to Gel Coat?

It's off season and my pool needs a lot of TLC, I may or may not work on it over the winter but I for sure want to have the inside re-gel coated before next season. I am completely fine with giving it a shot myself. But I am not sure how hard it actually is. The only XP I have using gel coat is after fixing some fiberglass areas. My pool isn't huge, and I ended up draining it last year in order to fix the cracks. It didn't cave in, crumble or blow up so I am willing to do it again. The one think I did notice is that there were lots of tiny spider web like cracks. So I am guessing that it's just due to the gel coat getting old (15+ years).

Anyhow has anyone done it? Is it hard? I assume you will need to sand the entire surface and use a cleaner on it? I wasn't sure then if you could spray the gel or if you have to roll it on.

Thanks
