I’ve read a lot of the posts here regarding the reasons to run the CYA at about 80ppm if using a SWCG. It seems that a primary reason is because the SWCG doses Cl very slowly. I’ll be installing a unit rated at 3.1 pounds per day of capacity. Doing some math for a 28,000 gallon pool gives me the ability to dose up to 13.3 ppm in a 24 hour period if I had the thing on full blast. I obviously would not do that, but is it still recommended that I increase my CYA from 40ppm where it is now up to 80ppm?
Thanks in advance,

With more CYA, sun will consume less CL, so you won't need to produce as much CL, and your cell will last longer.

High CYA is not recommended for non SWG pools because they are more likely to need an occasionally shock, and its much harder to shock at high CYA levels.

Perhaps not 80, that would apply more for the hotter locations, but a little more may be warranted. Much depends on the location of your pool, amount of direct sunlight, shade, etc. For pools in areas that don't receive the intense heat like we do down south, I would recommend a CYA of about 60. This puts you right at the minimum TFP recommends, but should afford you good FC protection. You can always add another 10 ppm worth later if needed.

Thanks guys!
Looking at my CYA/FC chart for SWCG applications, I now see that there really isn’t much difference in my target FC when having 60-90 ppm of CYA. Looks like my minimum is about 4 and a target of about 7-9 will suffice. I think I’ll start with 70 ppm CYA and see how it holds.
