Hi everyone. We've recently purchased a Sharkline Venture 21 x 54, an upgrade from our seven year old Intex 15 x 48. We are in the process of getting the yard ready for the pool, but I wanted to say hello. I've been lurking on TFP for seven years and figured I may as well join the community. The photos are of my wife and youngest son helping with the ground prep and one of our old pool. I will have to say the Intex was a great pool for 250 bucks. We got seven years out of it and I think we could have squeezed a few more but the vinyl was starting to fray at the top and I didn't want to chance it. Anyway, I look forward to meeting you all and I'll be posting more pictures as we go.

I have questions . Maybe I should post them elsewhere in the forum, but I'll ask here first.
We are going with sand, a pad, and foam cove strips. Do the cove strips go on top of the pad or does the pad go over the cove strips? I have to ask because I've seen it done both ways so I don't know which is correct.
I would think pad then cove but not sure.
Second question. We have a tree root at and in the area where the pool wall will sit. It's level with or slightly under the level we need to be. It's approximately 3 inches diameter. Would I be better off leaving it alone or cutting out and filling the hole it leaves? I'm thinking it may be better to leave it be. Not sure.

Tree root picture. Luckily it enters the pool area and exits out of the pool area within three feet. The top of the root is right at the level we need to be, possibly under by an inch. Should I cut it out or leave it alone? Cut it out and I'll have a hole. Leave it and may or may not cause problems later?

I would leave the tree root be. You will never be able to compact the ground as much as all that pool water will. I had a neighbor cut down a tree on the fence line a couple of feet away from my pool. After the root rotted away that side of the pool dropped two inches. At this point the only way to fix it is to take it all down. I monitor it and it has been stable the last 5 years.

We have been working our behinds off. Have the area level, patio blocks in position, and half of them laser leveled. Planning on leveling the other half tomorrow night after work. Hopefully do a final smooth out of area, cart in sand, and build Saturday. This was all hand dug with the exception of a small garden tiller. The "as seen on tv" Garden Claw is a beast. No, I'm not kidding. We used it to clear all of the sod and to break up a lot of the soil. We are so tired and sore we decided to get a hot tub and sit in it and look at the pool.
