Our pool pump (Hayward Variable Speed) started making a strange, pulsating noise (like a beating heart). It is only 2 years old (only 2 summers, starting on the 3rd). It might be clogged (I briefly saw a "check for clogging" message on the screen, but can't find the message anymore), but no debris was
found in the impeller from the basket side access.
Has anyone experienced that issue?
Although it really doesn't sound like cavitation. It sounds more like there is an obstruction in the impeller but you may need to take apart the pump to find it. Going through the pump basket only finds debris in the inlet but the obstruction could be in the impeller vanes you need to disassemble the pump to find that.
Also, make sure all valves on the suction side of the pump are open and there is no obstruction from the skimmer to the pump.
