Hayward Chlorinator Problem

I have a brand new Hayward Chlorinator and it worked for 2 months and now sticks full on. I'm not sure how to fix it. Chlorine levels go high and then I have to adjust by controlling the number and amount of pucks in the unit. Pretty bad system. Any ideas as to how this simple device could fail in such a manner? Also any clues on how to verify or confirm that it is not working properly? When I open the top I see water full in the chamber. And water circulating around and coming over the top. On any setting of the control dial. It doesn't seem to change the amount of swirling water.

Welcome to TFP!

Your chlorinator if like most Hayward chlorinators relies on filter back pressure for flow. Has your filter pressure increased? Does turning the flow control to off shut the chlorinator off?

The most common failures on puck chlorinators are a result of buildup of puck residue, so a disassembly and cleaning might help.

Chlorinating with pucks is problematic. Over a couple of months your stabilizer level can get high enough to effectively make your pool difficult to sanitize. Most of us here use either liquid chlorine or a Salt Water Chlorine Generator ((SWCG) for chlorination, reserving the pucks for when We are away from the pool.
