We had this system installed Summer 2022 along with a new pump. Everything was working fine until now. The solar valve will only open when in the test mode. When switched to auto it does not open. I think it is the solar sensor because the check sensor is blinking. Attached is a photo. Are the grey wires I circled supposed to be connected? If so, then what does that black clip get connected to? And by the yellow arrow where are some bare wires. Is that anything?

It sure appears that it broke. It looks like the other one is hanging on by a thread as as well.

Let's page @Dirk for possible answers to the other questions.

Looks like something chewed through the wires.

Probably a rodent like a squirrel or mouse.

Also possible but unlikely: Capybara, rat, guinea pig, hamster, rabbit, beaver etc.

Rodents need to chew because of their continuously growing incisors, which will get too big if they do not chew on things.

So, even when they are not eating, they chew on things to wear their teeth down.

You just have to reconnect the wires.

Clean up the wiring and reconnect.

The bare wire is nothing.

Sensor Mounting and Wiring

Solar Sensor: Use a screw or silicon adhesive to attach the sensor near the solar collector array.

The sensor does not have to be attached to the collectors.

It is only important that the sensor be exposed to the same sunlight as the collectors.

Additionally, the underside of the sensing element may be covered with silicon to minimize wind cooling.

Other 10K ohm Goldline sensors may be substituted.

Wire should be twisted pair 20AWG.

Sensor wiring run outdoors must be rated for outdoor use and ensure that the wire connections are protected from the weather.

Do NOT run sensor wires in the same conduit or multiconductor cable as the valve actuator wires or any 120/240V circuit.

For long runs or runs near other electrical wiring use shielded cable (Belden 8428 for outdoor use).

Ground the shields to the GL-35/LV ground screw.

The manual specifies Belden 8428 for outdoor use, but the product page says indoor use.

Environmental Suitability: Indoor (Not Riser or Plenum), Indoor.

Wire should be twisted pair 20AWG.

Sensor wiring run outdoors must be rated for outdoor use and ensure that the wire connections are protected from the weather.

In any case, just clean up the wire and reconnect.
