In April, had to replace the control valve. Yesterday, a pinhole leak started near the collar in the SD-80 (installed 2008). The only replacement filter I can find online is approximately $550 - most sellers are out of stock with an unknown restock date. Thinking about a total replacement at this point since a new set up may only be a few hundred dollars more. Have looked at the Hayward W3S270T2 Pool Sand Filter, 27 Inch as it is available quickly through Amazon for $700. What drew me to the Amazon is I can buy an extended warranty for $90 since Hayward will only warrant beyond the 60 days if not professionally installed. Hubby can do any install (included replumbing) so that's a waste of money. Seems to be good reviews but looking for any input or direction for other brands. Another option that sounds like a possibility as it states construction of filter is one piece rather than seamed at $640
I'm not well versed in sand filters so am unable to figure out how to compare the specs. Greatly appreciate any assistance!
Another question, we currently have the filter on recirculate - since the leak is a pinhole - can I put it on filter for a few hours a day just to keep the pool stable until we replace the unit? Hubby tried WaterWeld as an emergency temp solution but it has not stopped the leak.
