Just getting started on this forum. I have been a "happy" pool owner for 30 years. It was built shortly after we moved in to our new home.
13,500 gallon in ground with 500 gallon spa, Pebble Tec finish. I started with Jacuzzi equipment which has been replaced over the years. I am currently upgrading the automation from Suntouch to Intellicenter with a VS Pentair pump and Sta Rite 120 filter, Hayward/Aqua Rite SCG, Caretaker/Polaris floor cleaning system. Looks like the 30 year old Raypak heater which has been a solid performer, is going to be the next major purchase.
The original piping did not have any type of bypass valve or check valve between the heater and SCG cell installed. In reading up on todays heaters, installing a bypass and check valve is recommended. I know that the VS puts out at least 100 GPM. My question is- without any way to measure the flow rate, how do I meter the bypass valve to get the necessary flow thru the heater?? OR- Would it be better to automate that valve and bypass the heater unless the heater is in use?
