New to the forum, a green pool put me on a search that led me to this site. I have been a pool owner for over 15 years and my current pool was installed in July of 2011. I have never had a green pool before so this is new to me. Long story short, we hosted a pool party on July 4th for friends and family. The pool was heated to 85 degrees for the party. After the last person was out of the pool, we put the solar cover on it and the next morning my wife and I left for a vacation for a little over two weeks. Our pool is on a timer and the pump runs 11 PM to 7 AM every night. The pool heater was off while we were gone. On Sunday, July 21, we took the solar cover off to do maintenance only to discover we had a green pool. The pool had received no chemicals since the week of July 4th, the solar cover was on the entire time and we received 1.75 inches of rain while we were away according to our rain gauge. The water was cloudy and there was a noticeable buildup on the bottom. I assumed the green was algae and since the water level was at the top of the skimmer I decided to vacuum as much as I could to waste and when the water level dropped vacuumed to filter. I got about 2/3 of it to waste. It looked a bit better, but still very cloudy. I then hit it with 128 ounces of liguid chlorine shock, Phoenix brand 12.5 % Cloro Pool Shock I purchase from the pool store and let the filter run 24-7 for 2 days. On Tuesday it seemed it was getting worse not better so I took a sample to the pool store for testing. The results were:
Pool: 13,500 gallons, Hayward Pro series sand filter
These are the test results:
FC: 5.70
TC: 5.70
CC: 0.00
PH: 7.4
TA: 51
CH: 189
CYA: 44
Copper 0.10
They suggested 12 pounds of Alkalinity and 6 pounds of calcium hardness. Added the chemicals over the next 2 days and also did another shock this time with HTH CYA free granules. Been running the filter 24-7 and pool is still green and murky today. I have been looking online and reading some of the threads here and am thinking I need the Slam. I ordered the Taylor K-2006C test kit from Amazon, but won't receive until 8/2 with Prime shipping. So I took another sample of water today and took it to the pool store this afternoon.
These are the test results:
FC: 2.78
TC: 2.98
CC: 0.15
PH: 8.2
TA: 114
CH: 180
CYA: 50
Copper 0.40
They suggested 2 pounds, 12 ounces PH decreaser, and 7 pounds, 9 ounces of calcium hardness. They asked if I had any problems I said I still have a green pool. They suggested flocculant and sold me a bottle of Baquacil Filter Aid and Flocculant in addition to the calcium and PH down. I have not done anything yet to the pool and thought I would check in here first. My test kit will not arrive until Friday and I am leaving Friday morning for a weekend trip for which I will be back Sunday afternoon. I would love some guidance here as best way to proceed.
