Granular Triclor - How to add

Hello,

I am trying to elevate my CYA levels with triclor because of the added benefit of being able to save a bit of the bleach. The easiest and cheapest way to get it around here is in granular form and I have been bummed out on how to appropriately add the stuff.

Initially I was told into spreading it on the surface of the water, but the stuff is so strong I suspect it will do something to the paint of the pool. After that, I looked at some YouTube videos and was then recommended into putting the amount into the skimmer basket, but then I asked myself if the filter should be run in filter or recirculate mode. I did try adding it to the skimmer, and all of it just went right past the basket and down the pipes.

Now I am here. Is there a recommended way of adding granular chemical to the pool?

Thank you,

Not sure about trichlor, but I occasionally add granular cal-hypo to my pool since my calcium level is always low and I can sometimes get it cheaper than liquid chlorine. Anyway, I always mix it real good with water in a 3 gallon bucket before adding it to the pool, then just slowly add the dissolved cal-hypo like I would liquid chlorine.

Yes - I would dissolve in a 5 gallon bucket with some water (add the granules to the water already in the bucket, never water to the granules) and mix with a paint stick/etc. to dissolve, then pour into the pool.
