Salt 2600
CYA 100+

Issue is they noticed no chlorine so they added a couple of days ago and it turned cloudy. They turned the super chlorinated on yesterday. Vinyl liner pool with swg and sand filter.

I told them to take a sample to the pool store but let me know if the test comes back like 40 or 50. They had test strips that showed no CYA and they dumped CYA in the skimmer.

I said they should back wash to try and get that out of their filter. If the cya is really that high they need to drop and replace.

Anything I’m missing? With that much needed drained do they need to worry about the pool liner? My pool is set up different and it’s fiberglass so I just wanted to double check. I told them they needed to get CYA under control first

First & foremost, avoid the pool store for testing. It will only confuse them or you. With your test results, the CYA is too high and water needs to be exchanged to lower it. Once the CYA is back down to say 50-ish, do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to see if they have algae. If not, then balance the FC to the new CYA as noted on the FC/CYA Levels. Don't let the pH go any lower. See what it's like after the water exchange.

Remind them in the future, never pour anything in the skimmer. That always leads to trouble. Hope that helps.

I know with my pool (fiberglass) I have to be careful with how much I drain out. Does this apply to vinyl liners?
