Hi All :wave:
I have been having a pool company take care of my pool for the past two years and I have finally decided to do it myself. I have been reading the forums for a while now and have pickup up lots of tips and interesting info. I am looking forward to interacting more with this community. I have the TF-Pro test kit and have been using it for a couple months now. I still go to the pool store to get their results which never really match mine but I don't put too much stock in their numbers (and I politely decline their sales pitch and stick to the chlorine and muriatic acid). My pool constantly struggles with high CYA (~150-200), to the point that I can't even reliably test it since the liquid doesn't even make it to the graduations on the test tube. I'm thinking of just waiting it out over the summer and address the CYA in the fall (but that might be costly with the chlorine level I need to keep). I'm still undecided on that and would welcome any feedback. I still have lots to learn and appreciate this active community.

I know there's a link to CYA and chlorine. I'm confident you can find the detailed info. The place I get my chemicals from sells a product that treats high CYA levels. I have a mineral pool so I don't use chlorine. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Mix up a 'sample' of 50/50 with pool water and tap. Proceed with the rest of the test as normal and double the result. If it's still 90+, use 2 parts tap and 1 part pool and triple it. At that point you need a full drain so it's no use going further.

It may not even be feasible if you need 30+ FC. It starts burning off quickly in the 20s and you'd be out there every 2 hours adding more, or heck, it's hard enough in the 20s for our slams.

Get us a solid CYA reading and we'll go from there. It may take some doing to undo whats been done, but we roll on the cheap and easy so you've got smooth sailing ahead. We got you. :)

Yeah. You lower it with an even swap of 0 CYA tap water. Half is half (etc etc).

See the no drain exchange in the link below because you don't want your plaster sitting exposed in the AZ sun.

The diluted CYA test has 3X the variance for how you did it and you want to be sure to get the right amount exchanged the first time, so overshoot the needed 75%. Like by alot. If you miss the target and it's still high, you'll be draining all that new water with the old.
