My first post since I am new to having a pool. I have a 12x24x52 above ground pool with a Sand / salt pump. My readings were all over the place, but the salt was a little low, but my PH and Alkalinity were both high. I took a sample to Leslie pools and they cam back with a salt content of 3300 (which I was happy with), but my PH was 8.3 and my alkalinity was 232! They recommended I add 24 pounds of dry acid to the pool! According to their guidelines, the normal dose of dry acid is 1.1 ponds and wait four hours, at that rate I will be treating this problem for a month!

Ignore any advice and tests you get from Leslies. Dry acid is not good for use in a pool. Their testing is also crazy innaccurate/unreliable.

If you want a more reliable and lower cost way to manage a pool, get one of thr two test kits recommended by TFP and test your own water. If your TA is really high its not a problem that needs solving right away and tends to fix itself over time.
