Dog in Pool Help

Hello all! So glad I found this website.
We have put up our first 12 ft x 48" above ground pool and my poor husband is trying to make something for our dog (lab) to be able to get in and out of the pool safely and without ruining our liner. I thought I would check in with you all to see if anyone has come out with some creative ideas. I know there are a few products out there that we could purchase but he would really like to see if he can make something first.

Any ideas?

This looks like a plastic board with holes. I read the reviews and they suggest threading rope through for better paw traction. Seems like someone handy can duplicate?
