Does a dark liner make water warmer?

We have to replace our above ground pool as ours started collapsing after our hard Ottawa winter. We are choosing our new pool today along with the liner. I've heard varying opinions, both from professionals and laypeople about a dark liner vs. a lighter liner helping to keep the pool warmer. Any ideas out there?

A darker liner will make the water slightly warmer. Since you are Canadian, I imagine this is something that might help extend your pool season. Where I am (Texas), you would probably want to avoid darker liner or plaster colors as they can easily cause the pool to be too warm in the summer time.

I know of a 20 year old faded out stark white liner that was replaced with a dark new one. Made a difference, especially on a pool with a doughnut in the middle.
