DIY Waterproofing

Curious if anyone has taken the waterproofing step into their own hands prior to Hardscape and tile work being done?

Of all the steps in my current owner build, I seem to be having the most difficulty with transparency and getting specific requests acknowledged and agreed upon with the tile/hardscape contractors.

One of those areas is when it comes to waterproofing. I think I’m asking for more to be done than most OB’s ever think to ask for (the entire bond beam and 6-8” below waterline tile, entire elevated spa shell, etc)

Because of this, I’m wondering if I would be better off just buying a quality product that many here recommend and just applying it myself before the Hardscape guys even come out. (Don’t you just roll or brush it on??)

Is there any issue with this or reason I shouldn’t do this? Feels like it might give me the most peace of mind that it’s actually been done the way I’ve asked.

Why not just tell the guys exactly what to do and say if they don’t do it to not bother coming back?
