I posted in another thread last night but decided to start my own thread as to not hi jack that one. Here’s what’s happened—
5/2/20: I wanted to point out something that happened as I went about my ahhsome flush. My water is 6mos old. This is the longest I’ve ever been on a h20 changeout. I Usually do it every 3 months (always with ahhsome) but decided to delay until warmer weather & after i got my pool going. I keep with the dichor then bleach method & have a saltron mini that runs on a timer for an hour 4 times a day unless i add an hour here & there. I also augment with bleach for heavy bather loads. To my knowledge I have never been below the min fc level for my cya ( I’m a compulsive tester ?) I have noticed my demand getting a little higher recently but that’s to be expected. Anywhoo I brought the tub up to shock level, pulled my swg out, threw my rinsed filter in the tub & put in 2 tsp of ahhsome & turned on the jets. Water was 106 degrees. The foam began - I started scooping- no funk - ran about an hour- got a tiny amount of “residue” off the shell but not much - & no colored foam. So i proceed to wipe, rinse & drain etc. I fill Her up - confident in my purge - i add 10 ppm dichlor & my salt . I noticed the water didn’t look blue like it usually does it was more dingy looking (my spa is beige but my water never looks beige) . I let the jets run & go in for like 20 minutes. When i came back out There was brown goo! Like randomly floating & collecting on the side ?. So I run & grab more ahhsome & add a tsp - 10 minutes later there was brown greasy specks all in the foam & on the sides?. Scooped & scrubbed all that out & added another scoop & ran another hour to be sure. Now I’m filling again. From now on i will always do a 2nd purge.! I will also be back on the 3 month regiment. I’m sure its due to my hubby not scrubbing his hands & arms well enough. He’s a pipe fitter & really gets black. Chlorine can only overcome so much. I may also look into the ahhsome maintenance product.
5/3/20: after fill was complete last night I raised fc to 15 w/ dichlor according to pool math. Left the tub open for a couple hours (water looked great!) & decided to call it a night. This morning opened the cover & there it was -A brown scum line! I wiped/ scrubbed it off & tested:
FC is 15.5
CC is .5.
Cya is approx 13
Should I raise fc? if so how high?
I purged 3 times with 2 drain & fills the 3rd purge was clean.
I only have a tiny bit of Ahhsome left.
I want the CC gone
@Ahhsomeguy - HELP!

Ahh-some can react with chlorine a form CCs. My guess is the third purge was probably unnecessary and led to residual Ahhsome being left behind in the tub water. As you added chlorine, it started to react with it. We have had posts in the past of people either using too much Ahhsome or doing purges too frequently and then their water gets very foamy with high CCs until the Ahhsome is fully oxidized.

You should maintain shock level of chlorine until you see the CCs decrease. If they persist, you may need to drain and fill another time (no Ahhsome, just drain and refill).

Unless you suspect heavy bather contamination of the water, I would suggest you limit ahh-some use to every other water change. Some people find that using Ahhsome once per year is enough.

The brown scum line has me perplexed & grossed out.
I let the jets run wide open for quite a while & have no bubbles or foam & the water looks crystal clear. Gonna leave it open for a while today & let the fc come down 10 so i can adjust ph & ta then & recheck the cc’s.

note: yesterday on the 2nd fill i had 10ppm w/ dichlor and after i added the 3rd bit of ahhsome (a 1/2 dose) & was scrubbing around I could really smell the chloramines.

I had a similar problem and when I spoke with Ahhsome he told me I needed to purge again. I wound up purging 3 times and refilling 5. That finally did the trick. I forget the guys name but you can call them and he will advise you what to do.

Its all good- just wiped the residue with a microfiber & stayed @ shock level for 24 hours just in case. no more ever came out - it wasn’t a scum line like all the way around just in a couple places - similar to what occured in the hot tub serum tests on one of the threads but not as aggressive. I will forever purge twice even if the 1st one comes out clean. I think that’s what had me panicked the most- wondering how long that funk was in my plumbing ?. Thanks to all of y’all for talking me down off the nuclear ledge ?
