I have a sand filter, it said on the label 3.1 Ft2 for the effective filtration area.
I am adding DE as my water is not super clear (I am getting rid of algae before it got worst for the last 2 days.

Based in everything I read I should add approximately 1/2 pound of DE and make sure the gauge increase by 1 psi.

Am I right ?

Actually all filters will be different since they all have varying amounts of sand in them, ect. So start with about 1/4 cup and watch for a pressure rise (up to an hour possibly). If it hasn't risen 1 degree, add another 1/4 cup. Go slow, and when you remember how much it takes you'll be able to add that much next time. Remember that backwashing flushes all the DE out.
